Overview

This project involved creating an online portfolio dedicated to the work of Massimo Vignelli, one of the most influential modern designers. The website showcases a curated selection of his iconic works across various design disciplines, including product design, furniture, graphic design, and books. The portfolio highlights Vignelli’s minimalist design philosophy, featuring high-quality images of his most notable projects, along with detailed descriptions that provide insight into his creative process and design principles.

My idea was to design the home page as a remake of Vignelli's NYC Subway map. Each colored line would connect to a different section of the website. This would create an unconventional, interactive layout, where the website is essentially one large page. The homepage would display a central area, and users could navigate by moving up, down, left, or right from the center to access different sections—though they wouldn't be able to go to the corners. This zoomed-in central view would serve as the starting point, giving users a unique experience as they 'travel' through the site.

Final Design

For the final design, I decided to incorporate the names of some of Vignelli's works along the colored lines to act as different 'stops' on the map. This adds a more interactive and thematic element to the navigation. Additionally, I included a carousel of images on the other pages to showcase some of his most iconic works, allowing users to explore his designs visually while moving through the site.
